Aim:
The aim of this training session is to ensure that healthcare professionals acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to perform manual handling tasks safely, in accordance with current Manual Handling Regulations and organizational policies.

    • Overview of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, emphasizing employer and employee responsibilities in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Spinal Awareness and Back Injury Prevention:
    • Understanding the anatomy of the spine and how improper manual handling can lead to injury, with a focus on injury prevention techniques.
  • Causes and Prevention of Back Injury:
    • Identifying common causes of musculoskeletal injuries in the workplace and strategies to prevent them through safe handling practices.
  • Risk Assessment:
    • Step-by-step guide on conducting risk assessments, using the TILE (Task, Individual, Load, Environment) methodology to ensure safe systems of work.
  • Principles of Safe Handling:
    • Techniques for lifting, carrying, and transferring patients and objects safely to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Safe Use of Hoists, Slings, and Slide Sheets:
    • Practical guidance on the correct use of manual handling aids, ensuring participants can confidently apply them in real-world scenarios.
  • Incident Reporting:
    • Procedures for reporting manual handling incidents, emphasizing the importance of incident documentation to improve safety measures.
